Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
The Travellers App is a mobile app for travellers to meet each other, ask questions and share places. It is operated by Sawan Patodia, an individual based in India (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the iOS and Android apps and this website.
We collect only what the app needs to work. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and the apps contain no advertising or third-party analytics software.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address, which we use to send you a sign-in code. If sign-in with Google or LinkedIn is offered and you use it, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from that provider.
- Profile. The name, photo, banner, bio, expertise and other details you choose to add.
- Things you post. Questions, answers, replies, tips, votes, places you have visited with their dates and photos, the people you tag on a visit, check-ins, and the messages you send in direct and group chats.
- Location. If you allow it, the app reads your device’s location while it is open, to centre the map and suggest nearby places. It is never collected in the background. When you check in, the place you chose and your position at that moment are saved with the check-in.
- Safety records. Reports you file, and the people you block.
- Technical data. Our servers log requests (time, address requested, IP address and response) to keep the service running and secure.
- This website. If you join the waitlist we store your email address and the page that referred you. The site uses privacy-friendly page analytics that do not use cookies to identify you.
The apps do not access your contacts, microphone or camera. Photos are only read when you pick them.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To show your profile, posts, visits and check-ins to other people, as described below.
- To deliver your messages.
- To show travellers and places near you on the map.
- To review reports, enforce our Terms of Use and prevent abuse.
- To reply when you contact us.
What other people can see
- Your profile, and the questions, answers and tips you post, are visible to other signed-in users.
- A check-in shows you at the place you chose to the audience you select, until it expires or you end it.
- A visit you mark as personal is visible only to you. Other visits are shown on your profile.
- Messages are visible to the people in that conversation.
- Your email address is never shown to other users.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the companies that run the service for us, and only as needed for that purpose:
- a cloud hosting provider, which runs our servers;
- Neon, which hosts our database;
- Cloudflare, which stores uploaded photos;
- Resend, which delivers sign-in emails;
- Google Maps Platform, which provides the map and place search. Place searches are sent from our servers, and the map in the Android app is provided by Google under its own privacy policy. The iOS app uses Apple Maps.
These providers may store and process data outside India. We may also disclose data when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Check-ins stop being shown to other people when they expire or you end them. Server logs are kept for a limited period. When you delete your account, what happens is described on the account deletion page.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. On your device, your session is stored in the operating system’s secure storage and is excluded from backups. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else, contact us.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, delete your visits and end your check-ins in the app.
- Turn location access off at any time in your device settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
- Delete your account in the app, or by asking us.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to withdraw your consent, by emailing support@thetravellersapp.com. We reply within 30 days.
Children
The Travellers App is for adults. You must be at least 18 to use it. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
